Castrate it two Ossos: Praying among bones

The chapels are used to being generally places where the faithful Catholics approach to elevate prayers and in which the peace is the feeling that cousin. Nevertheless, in the locality of Évora in Portugal a chapel exists that terrifies to some of its visitors and to some other surprises them pleasantly. It is a matter of it “Castrate it two Ossos“, that is to say, “Chapel of the Bones” and is located next to the Church of San Francisco.

Its name describes very well the interior of the chapel, since is adorned by bones in its walls and ceilings. Also two mummies can be observed still with clothes and skin hanging of the ceiling of the chapel. The building was built in the century XVI by the Franciscans and in its entrance can read itself:”Ourselves ossos that here we are hairs vosos we expect”. When the foreign visitors are informed of the meaning of the phrase, the fuzzes of the body they bristle him themselves: “We bones that here are, by yours we expect“. It is said that the Franciscans built the chapel with the purpose to show to the people that should not attach us so much to the material thing, since our life in the earthly world is alone a way toward another world.

About the two mummies that hang of the ceiling a history exists. The history counts that those mummies were in life a father and son that abusively injured physically their wife and mother, respectively. A day of those beatings, they mistreated them so much that the woman to the edge of the death cursed to both telling them that quick they would die and that neither the hell would want to harbor them. Finally the woman died and little time later father and son just as told her the woman. To the moment to bury the bodies of the two men, the land he was put so hard that the Franciscan parents did not have another option that to hang them in the ceiling of the chapel.

The high one of the chapel is of slightly more than 18 meters and so much their walls, ceilings and some of the columns they are adorned of bones and skulls embedded in the cement. Probably the bodies proceed of the plague and they are calculated in 5000.
