Athens, the city of the Olympus

The history of Athens extends more than 3.000 years, what becomes it one of the older cities inhabited. During the classical epoch of Greece, (to see hotels in Greece) was a powerful city-state that had a fundamental role in the development of the democracy. Was also an arts center where many of the large artists, writers and philosophers of the Antiquity lived. These contributions from Athens to the thought of its epoch had a great influence in the development of Greece, of Rome and of the western culture. Obviously emphasizing its antiquity, possesses many structures and buildings of great history. This attracts enormously the tourist that among others places can visit:



The Acropolis, a flat rock that is located in the upper part of the city of Athens, in which The Parthenon is found, the old Greek temple of the city of Athens. That temple was built Athene, that was the protective goddess of the city. The Parthenon is considered one of the most beautiful architectural works of the world, and the most important one of the old Greek civilization. In The Acropolis also the Erecteión is found, that was a temple of ionic order, fact of marble pentélico, and built to the north from the Acropolis in honor of Athene, Poseidón, and Erecteo.



The Temple of Athene Niké, also is situated on The Acropolis, and was built in commemoration to the victory on the Persians in the battle of Salamina. Beyond The Acropolis, in Athens the old main Square is found. The same one functioned like shopping center, political and social of Athens. There the laws were discussed, on politics, philosophy, and judgments were celebrated.

Athens is a city of a lot of cultural and historic content, a city that attracts to thousands of tourists daily. You can be one of them to be amazed with its architecture and customs of the inhabitants that there reside.



Athens counts on multiple precincts for theater, music, expositions and spectacles. One of the most significant events is the Festival of Athens, that takes place between the months of May and October and understands representations of opera, dance, theater (especially classical Greek theater) and concerts, utilizing, among others settings, the Theater Odeón of Herod Attic (next to the Acropolis, built in the century II d. C.).
