Altemburg, Bach at the door

Altemburg is a German city that belongs to the state federated of Turingia. The most nearby cities are Leipzig that is found 39 kilometers to the north, Zwickau 31 kilometers to the south and Gera, 29 kilometers to the west. Has 37,236 inhabitants and is very acquaintance because J. S. Bach work in the cut of the same name.



The city arose in the 976 ad and the emperor Hohenstaufen lived large seasons there. It was organized like a city free inside the empire. In the year 1329 was conquered by the Margraves of Meiben. Between 1603 and 1672 and from 1826 to 1918 became the residence of the dukes of Saxony. During World War Two was a city that remained practically unharmed.
